Pastor Jim (PJ) Holthus
"PJ" grew up on a farm in South Dakota and was the middle of three brothers. He was active in 4-H and spent many, many hours on a John Deere 4020 during summers. He graduated from Lane High School in 1968 and from Northern State University in Aberdeen in 1972. PJ was a YMCA professional first at the Aberdeen Y and later at the Family YMCA of Charles City, Iowa, until November of 1975 when he moved to St. Paul to begin classes at Luther Seminary. He was ordained January 16, 1983 and has served as Assistant Pastor of Hawley Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN; Lutheran Campus Pastor at UW-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, WI, Pastor of the Perley, MN parish (Kirkebo and Nora congregations), and ELCA Campus Pastor here in Bemidji. PJ also received a Masters of Education in Clinical Counseling from North Dakota State University in 1993 and worked at Lutheran Social Service in Moorhead in 1992 and 1993. He began his call to Bemidji as campus pastor in September of 2001 and hopes to remain serving in this capacity until fall of 2015 when he will retire at the age of 65.
